Will Self is so disturbing. Obviously, as has been often said, he is a virtuoso of the English language, and there is never a time when you think a word is poorly chosen or a description less than apt. Indeed it is very often his word choice that makes something funny or disturbing. He doesn't shock or offend (at least not me, and I suspect the people who would be shocked and offended are not literate enough to understand what he's saying), but he has a way of making me extremely uncomfortable, and that's the point I suppose, or part of it. His takes on sexuality here just niggle, molest, and finally insinuate themselves into my subconscious where they lay silently, waiting to attack me when I least expect it. It's unsettling, but I love it.
